Flavia decides to act as a detective and solve the case of murder (of course the stranger is poisoned, let me spoiler that).
It is written in first person, so you get to know everything about Flavias feelings and her "inside", which is mostly very british. She has a lot of odd ideas and unusual methods of investigating and questioning people, and most of them are a little illegal. By the way, the story takes place in the 1950s. It has everything a good detective novel needs: a location mostly cut off from the outside world, coming along with a limited amount of suspects, a good detective, a nice background story that is discovered during the book, and so on. The reader can wonder about the identity of the murderer until the very end when the case is solved (because of the first person thing). I could go on like this forever, maybe I'll be able to rewrite this, but for now: It's just amazing. The best detective story I read so far. - Julia DON'T TRY FLAVIAS EXPERIMENTS AT HOME! I know it's tempting but I think it might not be healthy for your house, you and your family.. just a warning ;) - Nicole
