The book gives a beautiful insight in the head of a 13 year old teenager who has to grow up faster than she has hoped to. Mike and Chad are great characters and with every page of the book the image of them becomes clearer. The feelings and emotions of characters are expressed through Apron's observations, which are very detailed and create a clear image of the situation. In the beginning of every chapter, there is a Latin quote because Apron's dad is a Latin professor. I personally found this very entertaining as I studied Latin at school but there is a translation, though, so that is nothing to worry about.
When I started the book, I felt like the writing style was a little distant. This is one of the books with this writing style that is so hard to descibe, it is distant but at the same time it isn't and I am not always sure if I should like that or not. In this case, the further I read, the more I became attached to Apron and her story . This is definetly a beautiful book which touches on the hardships in life as well as criticises the hate for gay people. Eventhough Girl Unmoored is not going to be on my list of all-time favourites, is surely worth a read.
